Matt is dedicated to finding, funding, and nurturing ground­breaking tech­nolo­gies that address critical challenges in climate change. He works closely with exceptional founders and teams, leveraging his expertise to build trans­for­ma­tive businesses that not only thrive but also contribute to sustainable prosperity in a rapidly changing world.

Prior to joining DCVC, Matt was the COO of Google Quantum AI, where his team achieved the ground­breaking milestone of demon­strating that a quantum computer could surpass the capa­bil­i­ties of the most powerful classical super­com­puters in specific tasks. Matt also led a seminal reeval­u­a­tion of cold fusion, including sponsored research at MIT and other univer­si­ties, and facilitated Alphabet’s investment in Common­wealth Fusion Systems. Prior to joining Google, he served as a Partner at Venrock, focusing on investments in clean energy tech­nolo­gies. His investments included Lucid Motors (electric vehicles), Phononic (advanced ther­mo­electrics), Nest (smart home controls), and TAE Tech­nolo­gies (plasma fusion). Matt’s profes­sional journey also includes co-founding two Internet software companies that were acquired, as well as conducting research in super­con­duc­tivity and other collective quantum effects. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from MIT and a master’s degree in management from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
