Biography

Matt is an Operating Partner at DCVC. Before joining DCVC, Matt was the COO of Google Quantum AI based in Mountain View. This team was the first to demonstrate that a quantum computer could out-perform the world’s most powerful classical supercomputer on a particular task. Matt also directed a reevaluation of cold fusion that included sponsored research at MIT and facilitated Alphabet’s investment in Commonwealth Fusion Systems. Prior to joining Google Research, Matt was a partner at Venrock where he focused on clean energy technologies. His investments include Lucid Motors (electric vehicles), Phononic (advanced thermoelectrics), Nest (smart home controls), and TAE Technologies (plasma fusion). Earlier in his career, Matt co-founded two internet software companies that were successfully acquired and researched superconductivity and other collective quantum effects. Matt received a BS in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a MS, Management from MIT Sloan School of Management.
