Graphcore

Building hardware to supercharge the next generation of artificial intelligence

Recent advances in AI have been powered largely by graphics processing units (GPUs) that distribute processing among hundreds of cores. But GPUs were originally built to render 2D and 3D images, not to simulate neural networks. Bristol, UK – based Graphcore has created the AI-customized Bow IPU (intelligence processing unit), which uses 3D-stacked wafers and groundbreaking architecture to distribute memory as well as processors and achieve speeds on AI-based tasks of 350 trillion floating-point operations per second. Graphcore packages these IPUs into pods and data centers that help users accelerate machine-intelligence-powered research in fields from drug discovery to decarbonization.
