Building a marketplace to buy and sell short-term contracts on compute/GPU hours
When big data and cloud services began to redefine the computing market, many developers moved away from traditional relational database management systems based on the SQL query language and relations between tables, worried that they couldn’t scale out. But Citus doubled down on relational databases, building an extension of the open-source PostgreSQL database system that supports distributed data and queries, sharding, rebalancing, and other important cloud computing features. The Citus database is available in open-source form, but after Microsoft acquired Citus Data in 2019, it also made a fully hosted and managed version of Citus available on the Azure cloud.
