Josh Pickering

Chief of Staff

Josh supports DCVC’s managing partners and investment and operating teams, drawing on leadership experience in medicine, the military, and crisis operations.

Before joining DCVC, Josh conducted cardio­tho­racic surgery research at Stanford University and the University of Florida, where he helped design and test novel surgical devices, including a patented vascular graft sheath now licensed inter­na­tion­ally. He later supported regulatory and commercial strategy for early-stage biotech and diagnostics companies, including Hirotsu Bio and Epirium Bio, and helped launch large-scale medical aid efforts through Nova Ukraine and TeleHelp.

Earlier in his career, Josh served in the U.S. Navy as an Operations Specialist, deploying twice to the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Mobile Bay as Air Defense Commander of the John C. Stennis strike group. He earned his MD and MBA from Stanford, where he co-founded the Stanford Tech & National Security Conference.
