Stephen Beaton

Entre­pre­neur In Residence

Stephen is partic­u­larly interested in applying deep technology to solve problems in climate and national security. As an Entre­pre­neur In Residence, he is building his own clean-energy startup while helping DCVC evaluate early-stage investment opportunities. 

Prior to joining DCVC, Stephen worked as a scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Pentagon. He has co-authored research papers published in numerous journals, including Chemical Science, the Journal of the American Chemical Society, and Energy and Envi­ron­mental Science.

Stephen received a bachelor’s degree in biochem­istry from the U.S. Air Force Academy and performed his doctorate work under Professor Fraser Armstrong at the University of Oxford, receiving a DPhil in inorganic chemistry. He is pursuing an MBA at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, which he expects to complete in June 2024.
