Stroke patients with large-vessel occlusion (LVO) should be transported immediately to compre­hen­sive stroke centers with the technology and expertise to remove clots rather than conven­tional emergency departments. But EMS teams have no way to distinguish between LVO and small-vessel occlusion, which is part of the reason stroke is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States. MindRhythm builds a novel, noninvasive head sensor that measures tiny changes in pulse readings, so emergency responders can rapidly recognize LVO strokes.
