To prevent security breaches, cloud computing providers developed a technique called microseg­men­ta­tion that isolates workloads in secure zones of a server or data center. Tradi­tion­ally, appli­ca­tions gained access to these segments based on their IP addresses, but Aporeto invented a more secure method based on machine and application identities. Palo Alto Networks acquired Aporeto in 2019 to help strengthen its Prisma Cloud application protection platform.
