In silicon-spin quantum systems, a qubit is represented by a quantum dot, a single supercooled electron confined in all three spatial dimensions. Quantum Motion is solving the engineering challenges involved in printing these quantum dots on standard silicon wafers. It has also learned how to manage the extreme temperature differences between the qubits and their control electronics using a form of “algorithmic cooling” in which one qubit in a pair can transfer entropy to the other. In 2025 the company delivered what it calls the world’s first full-stack silicon spin computer to the U.K. National Quantum Computing Center.
